Kerala’s Transport Minister, K.B. Ganesh Kumar, has issued a formal show-cause notice to Assistant Motor Vehicles Commissioner V. Joy. This disciplinary action follows the Minister’s abrupt cancellation of a vehicle flag-off ceremony for the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) the previous day, which he deemed to be poorly organized.
Minister Kumar halted the event on Monday and left the venue, publicly declaring that strict measures would be taken against those accountable for the inadequate arrangements. His initial directive was to have 52 new MVD vehicles lined up for the ceremony in front of Kanakakunnu Palace. However, MVD officials failed to execute this due to the Tourism Department denying permission, citing concerns about damage to the palace’s tiled platform.
The Minister’s anger was reportedly fueled by the delayed communication of this critical issue and the noticeably sparse attendance of officials at the planned event. While the Minister’s swift decision and call for accountability have sparked considerable criticism among MVD staff, the ceremony is now planned to be held in October.
