Hyderabad’s most celebrated landmarks shimmered in a vibrant pink hue on Tuesday evening, ushering in International Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Observed globally every October, this vital campaign seeks to spotlight breast cancer, a disease that remains the most common type of cancer affecting women throughout India.
Among the prominent sites bathed in pink were the majestic Charminar, the iconic Buddha statue gracefully rising from Hussainsagar Lake, the modern Durgam Cheruvu cable bridge, the innovation hub T-Hub, Prasad’s entertainment complex, and KIMS Hospital. This spectacular display was orchestrated by the Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation, marking their 17th consecutive year of organizing such an impactful event.
Dr. P. Raghu Ram, the esteemed founder, CEO, and Director of the Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation, explained the rationale behind the initiative: “Illuminating prominent monuments in pink is a powerful way to spark public curiosity and emphasize the crucial role of early detection. This global tradition began in 2000, when the Estée Lauder group first illuminated its buildings worldwide in pink to herald the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”
Echoing this worldwide movement, renowned international landmarks such as the White House, the towering Empire State Building, London’s majestic Buckingham Palace and Tower of London, and the enchanting Eiffel Tower in Paris also transform with a radiant pink glow throughout October, uniting in this significant awareness campaign.
