Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay recently voiced his immense pain and shock over the tragic stampede in Karur on September 27, 2025, which resulted in 41 fatalities during his political rally. He explicitly told Chief Minister M.K. Stalin that if any punitive action was intended, it should be directed at him personally, not at the members of his party.
In a heartfelt video shared on social media, Mr. Vijay conveyed that he had never encountered such a painful situation in his life. He highlighted the overwhelming love and support from people during his statewide tour and reiterated that public safety had always been his utmost concern. He explained that his party diligently focused on selecting secure venues and sought proper police permission for all events, setting aside political considerations.
“This unfortunate incident should never have happened,” Mr. Vijay stated. He clarified his delayed arrival at the site, explaining his choice was to prevent any further unforeseen incidents given the chaotic situation. He extended his deepest condolences to the families who lost loved ones and wished a swift recovery to those injured, promising to meet them soon. He also thanked other political leaders and functionaries for their understanding and support.
Questioning why such a calamity occurred specifically in Karur when previous rallies in five other districts proceeded without incident, Mr. Vijay asserted, “People know the truth; they have witnessed everything. The full truth will come to light shortly.” He maintained that the rally was held at an authorized location and all necessary procedures were followed. Addressing the arrests and FIRs filed against TVK members, he reiterated his challenge: “CM Stalin sir, if you wish to take action, direct it at me, not them. I am readily available at my home or office.” He concluded by declaring that TVK’s political journey would continue, emerging “stronger and braver than ever.”
