In a significant political maneuver, the Maharashtra Congress announced on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, the appointment of several veteran party figures to lead as coordinators for the forthcoming 2026 elections. These elections will target the Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies within the State legislative council.
Among the notable appointments, Balasaheb Thorat, a revered party veteran, former Minister, and a member of the powerful Congress Working Committee (CWC), has been entrusted with the crucial role of coordinator for the Pune graduates’ and teachers’ constituencies. This vital assignment was formally confirmed through a party statement released on the same day.
Further reinforcing its electoral machinery, the Congress has designated Satej Patil, currently serving as the group leader in the legislative council and also a former minister, to coordinate the efforts for the Nagpur graduates’ constituency.
Rounding out these strategic leadership roles, former minister and senior state unit vice-president Sunil Deshmukh will oversee the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar graduates’ constituency. Additionally, M.M. Shaikh, a former MLA and senior vice-president of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), has been appointed to coordinate the Amravati teachers’ constituency, thus completing the party’s comprehensive leadership lineup for the upcoming polls.
