In a crucial move to protect children who have been victimized in cases involving child sexual abuse material (CSAM), the Kerala Police have rolled out a specialized Victim Identification Taskforce (VIDTF) training program. This vital initiative is currently underway at the Kerala Police Academy in Ramavarmapuram, Thrissur, running from September 29th to October 9th.
This program is specifically designed to significantly enhance the police force’s capability to effectively tackle the increasing number of CSAM cases. Developed in collaboration with various key agencies, this training is a core component of the Kerala Police’s annual international cOcOn conference, a major event dedicated to raising awareness about cybercrimes and improving investigative techniques.
The training sees 40 dedicated officers from various State and Union Territory police forces, all actively involved in investigating cybercrimes against children, participating. Beyond rigorous technical and practical sessions led by seasoned experts, the curriculum thoughtfully includes sessions focused on providing emotional and mental support to officers. This is crucial for helping them navigate the inherent stress and sensitive nature of these investigations.
The program was officially inaugurated at the Kerala Police Academy by DGP Manoj Abraham, who serves as the Director of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption.
High-ranking officials present at the inauguration included ADGP (HQ) S. Sreejith, Academy Director K. Sethuraman, Thrissur Range DIG Harishankar, Thrissur City Commissioner Ilango R., and Professor Paul Griffiths from Childlight – Global Child Safety Institute, among other distinguished guests.
Looking ahead, the cOcOn international seminar is scheduled to take place on October 10th and 11th in Kochi, continuing its focus on critical cybersecurity and investigative topics.
