Nepal has delivered a stunning blow to the West Indies, clinching their Twenty20 series with a phenomenal 90-run victory, and still a match left to play.
This remarkable series began on September 27, 2025, when Nepal faced the two-time world champions for the very first time. They announced their arrival on the international stage with an historic 19-run win, marking their maiden victory against a full ICC member.
Just two days later, on September 29, 2025, their performance proved even more spectacular.
After posting a formidable 173-6, propelled by career-best half-centuries from Aasif Sheikh and Sundeep Jora, Nepal’s bowlers dismantled the West Indies lineup, dismissing them for a mere 83 runs in 17.1 overs.
Highlighting the bowling attack, medium-pacer Mohammad Aadil Alam delivered a career-best performance, snatching 4 wickets for just 24 runs in his ninth T20 international.
The West Indies, fielding a second-string squad that introduced 19-year-old leg-spinner Zishan Motara as their fifth debutant of the series, found themselves sinking to an unprecedented low.
This poor T20 showing follows a disappointing test performance in July, where their test team was bowled out for just 27 against Australia in Kingston, marking the second-lowest total in men’s test history.
The 83 runs scored on September 29, 2025, now stands as the lowest total ever recorded by a full ICC member side against an associate team in T20 internationals, falling five runs short of England’s previous low against the Netherlands in the 2014 T20 World Cup.
Moreover, Nepal’s resounding 90-run triumph marks the largest margin of victory by an associate team over a full member nation in T20 cricket history.
“For us, it’s about quickly grasping the demands of international cricket,” stated West Indies captain Akeal Hosein. “If you set your benchmarks here and fail to meet the required standard, then you must critically assess whether you truly possess international capabilities.”
Earlier in Nepal’s innings, Hosein managed to claim two wickets, contributing to their early struggles at 43-3 before Sheikh and Jora unleashed their century partnership in just 11 overs.
Aasif Sheikh, the opening batter, remained unbeaten with a magnificent 68 off 47 deliveries, while Sundeep Jora blazed 63 runs from only 39 balls, including five towering sixes.
In stark contrast, only three West Indies batsmen managed to reach double figures, with Jason Holder’s 21 being the highest contribution.
“We are incredibly happy,” remarked Nepal captain Rohit Paudel. “Achieving a victory against a test-playing nation demanded immense effort and dedication.”
He added, “This series was crucial for us to exhibit our cricketing prowess and talent globally. With increasing attention on our team due to our performances over the past few years, our next goal is to achieve a complete clean sweep.”
The third and final T20 match of the series is scheduled for September 30, 2025.
