A devastating incident occurred on Monday, claiming the life of a 22-year-old student. She was fatally struck by a speeding truck while attempting to navigate a dangerously deteriorated section of road near Budigere cross, within the Avalahalli Police Station jurisdiction.
The young victim, identified as Dhanushree, was a final-year BCom student residing in Hoskote. She was en route to her private college when the tragedy unfolded. As she maneuvered to avoid a treacherous stretch of road at Boodigere Cross, a truck approaching from behind collided with her. Dhanushree lost her balance, fell beneath the moving vehicle, and succumbed to her injuries instantly.
The driver of the truck fled the scene immediately after the accident. Local police promptly arrived, moved Dhanushree’s body for post-mortem examination, and initiated a hit-and-run investigation. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage to aid their inquiry. Onlookers at the scene expressed profound anger, squarely blaming the deplorable road conditions for this preventable death.
This tragic event comes just a week after residents of Varthur and Gunjur held a peaceful demonstration. Their protest demanded immediate action to repair the pothole-riddled and poorly maintained Varthur–Gunjur road, which has become notoriously dangerous.
The community’s frustration is palpable. Men, women, and children, carrying placards, united to demand safer infrastructure, highlighting previous accidents and a recent school bus breakdown as stark evidence of the severe civic negligence. Their comprehensive list of demands includes urgent road resurfacing, the installation of crucial traffic signals and appropriate U-turn facilities, and significant long-term investments in road infrastructure.
