The Karnataka State government has uniformly eased the maximum age limit for recruitment into government jobs by an additional three years, a decision that spans across all departments and categories.
This age relaxation is a ‘one-time measure’ and applies specifically to the current drive for direct recruitment, which aims to fill 32,111 posts across various state government departments, according to an official order issued on Monday.
Previously, the State government had imposed a freeze on all new recruitment processes in October 2024. This pause was implemented to ensure that any future hiring would proceed only after the successful implementation of internal reservation policies for Scheduled Castes (SCs).
Following the State Cabinet’s decision in August 2025 to enforce internal reservation, an initial two-year age limit relaxation was granted. However, numerous elected representatives and job aspirants subsequently appealed to the government, advocating for a five-year extension. Responding to these petitions, the State government upgraded the relaxation from two years to three years in its latest order on Monday, offering broader access to public employment opportunities.
