On World Heart Day, the Health Department in Palakkad district proudly unveiled ‘Hridayapoorvam’ – a vital new initiative aimed at significantly improving community heart health. As part of this impactful program, essential training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is being provided to government employees and members of the Kudumbashree self-help groups.
During the program’s inauguration, District Collector M.S. Madhavikutty emphasized the critical role of CPR in aiding heart attack victims. She passionately stressed that knowledge of CPR and artificial breathing is a fundamental skill everyone should possess, empowering individuals to take immediate, life-saving action.
The ‘Hridayapoorvam’ campaign was strategically launched by the government to equip citizens with the ability to swiftly recognize potential heart attack symptoms and confidently deliver crucial primary care. Its initial phase focuses on training a broad spectrum of officials and dedicated volunteers, including ASHA workers and Kudumbashree members.
The inaugural event, held at the District Collectorate, was presided over by District Surveillance Officer Kavya Karunakaran. Expert Basic Life Support (BLS) training was conducted by Dr. Vaishakh Balan, District Secretary of the Kerala Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA), and Dr. Kajal Abid, District Coordinator for the Indian Medical Association’s (IMA) Emergency Life Support (ELS) committee. Other notable speakers included District Deputy Medical Officer Dr. Ahamed Afasal, District Hospital Superintendent Dr. P.K. Jayasree, Government Medical College, Palakkad Superintendent Dr. B. Sreeram, and District Education Media Officer S. Sayana. Following the launch, comprehensive CPR training sessions were rolled out for government employees across various departments at the Civil Station, as well as at district and taluk hospitals throughout the campaign.
