Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, has officially joined Arattai, a messaging application developed in India. Goyal expressed his pride in using the ‘Swadeshi’ product via a post on X, stating, “Nothing beats the feeling of using a #Swadeshi product. So proud to be on @Arattai, a #MadeInIndia messaging platform that brings India closer…”.
Arattai is designed to be a simple, secure, and free instant messaging service for connecting with friends and family. Users are required to register with their mobile numbers. Developed by Zoho Corporation, a company with over a decade of experience in creating communication and collaboration software for businesses, Arattai aims to foster casual conversations, as its name suggests. In Tamil, ‘arattai’ translates to ‘casual talk’ or ‘chit-chat’.
The app facilitates sending messages, media, and documents, along with audio and video calls. It also allows users to share stories and create channels.
Arattai emphasizes its commitment to user data security by encrypting all data at storage and keeping it within India. Furthermore, the app offers a ‘secret chat’ feature with end-to-end encryption for messages and ensures all calls made through the platform are also end-to-end encrypted. Since calls are made over the internet, they are free of charge, requiring only an active internet connection to connect globally.
