In a significant crackdown on illicit drug trade, Kakinada district police announced on Monday the arrest of a three-member inter-state ganja smuggling ring. Authorities successfully confiscated a massive 383 kilograms of ganja during the operation. The individuals apprehended were identified as Kadham Singh and Mapi Kanwar, both hailing from the Jalore district of Rajasthan, along with Suvvan Kankar Devi from the G. Madugula mandal in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitarama Raju district.
During a press conference held in Peddapuram, Kakinada Superintendent of Police G. Bindu Madhav detailed the dramatic apprehension. He revealed that the gang had initially tried to evade capture on September 23rd when they rammed their car into ground staff at the Jonnada toll plaza, located on the national highway in Visakhapatnam.
Superintendent Madhav further stated, “We successfully seized 175 packets of ganja from the arrested individuals.” He explained that the criminal network was involved in sourcing the illicit drug from Odisha and then transporting it via road all the way to Rajasthan. A case has been officially registered, and a thorough investigation into the matter is currently underway.
