Ronak Khatri, the former president of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU), officially filed a police complaint on Monday, September 29, 2025. He alleged that he received a menacing phone call from an international number, with the caller demanding a hefty sum of ₹5 crore.
According to Mr. Khatri, a prominent leader supported by the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the alarming call came at 12:44 p.m. on Monday. In his detailed complaint to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North), he noted that the call originated from a number bearing Ukraine’s country code, adding a perplexing international dimension to the threat.
The individual on the other end of the line explicitly claimed ties to the notorious Rohit Godara gang. They issued a chilling ultimatum: if the demanded money was not delivered, Mr. Khatri would be killed.
“Right after the phone call, I immediately received a WhatsApp message from the exact same number,” Mr. Khatri recounted in his complaint. “This message reiterated both the extortion demand and the severe death threat, leaving no doubt about their intentions.”
Expressing profound concern, Mr. Khatri emphasized the gravity of the situation. “This isn’t just a straightforward case of criminal intimidation and extortion,” he added, “it also brings up serious worries about the safety and well-being of myself and my entire family.”
To substantiate his claims, the student leader submitted the complaint via email, complete with crucial evidence including screenshots of both the threatening call and the subsequent WhatsApp message.
DCP (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami confirmed the police’s awareness of the incident, stating, “We received an extortion complaint from Ronak Khatri today at 2:52 p.m. through email, and we will be taking the necessary action immediately.”
