The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sharply criticized the Congress government in Telangana for its negligent handling of pending fee reimbursement payments. The party has fully endorsed the decision by private college management associations to initiate a statewide shutdown of educational institutions.
N. Ramchander Rao, the Telangana BJP president and a former MLC, highlighted the severe financial strain on private colleges. He stated that the government’s failure to release approximately ₹8,000 crore in dues over the past two years has left colleges unable to pay staff salaries, forcing many into temporary closures.
Rao pointed out that the Congress had promised students ₹5 lakh ‘Vidya Bharosa’ cards during the last Assembly elections, a pledge that remains unmet. He further accused the Telangana government of neglecting its duty to safeguard the education system, warning that its actions are driving the sector towards a complete collapse.
The BJP leader also recalled Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s promise at Osmania University to allocate ₹1,000 crore in funds. However, Rao lamented that the state now struggles to even provide pensions to retired teachers. He also expressed concern over the establishment of new universities without adequate basic infrastructure.
