In a significant breakthrough, the Kannur Town police have announced the arrest of Majeef K.P., 31, who is believed to be the main orchestrator behind a recent attempt to smuggle banned tobacco products and mobile phones into the high-security Kannur Central Jail.
The incident, which garnered attention, took place on August 24. On that day, three individuals were caught in the act of trying to introduce prohibited items, including tobacco products and a smartphone, into the correctional facility. Alert jail staff managed to apprehend Akshay, 27, a resident of Panankav, immediately and handed him over to the police. However, the other two accomplices managed to flee the scene at the time.
Majeef K.P. is no stranger to the law, as he currently has five pending criminal cases registered against him at various police stations, including Karipur, Edavanna, and Mayyil. His capture represents a crucial step in the ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities targeting the region’s jail system.
