New Delhi: In a significant breakthrough, Delhi Police have rescued an 18-month-old boy who was abducted and subsequently sold for ₹45,000. The operation led to the apprehension of five individuals, including four men and a juvenile, in Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba district.
The investigation revealed that the child was taken from Delhi’s Karol Bagh area. According to police reports, one of the arrested individuals, a 54-year-old man with two daughters, orchestrated the abduction because he desired a male child. He reportedly offered up to ₹1 lakh to the Delhi-based perpetrators.
The incident came to light on September 24 when the child’s father, Mukesh, a Rajasthan-based handicraft seller, reported his son missing. The family had been sleeping on the footpath near Ganga Ram Hospital after attending a fair.
A special investigation team analyzed footage from over 100 CCTV cameras, tracking two suspects on a scooter with a disguised number plate. These suspects were observed transferring a child into a white car near RML Hospital. The vehicle was later traced to Kali Bari Lane in New Delhi, resulting in the arrests of Anant, Raju alias Rishi, and Sahil Kumar. A 17-year-old was also apprehended.
Further interrogation led the police to Mahoba, where the child was sold to Foolan Srivas alias Santosh, who has also been arrested. The toddler was safely rescued, bringing immense relief to his family. The police have also seized the scooter and car used in the crime, along with ₹5,500 in cash. Investigations are ongoing.
