Nestled quietly, Kondareddypally has proudly claimed its place as the second village in India to be entirely powered by solar energy. This remarkable achievement makes it the first in the southern region to reach such a distinction, drawing significant attention to the State Government’s ambitious green energy initiatives.
Located in the Vangoor mandal of Nagarkurnool district, this pioneering village, also the native place of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, now boasts 514 houses and 11 government buildings running on clean solar power. A significant 480 homes are equipped with 3 KW rooftop solar panels, while larger 60 KW units supply electricity to schools and other government facilities.
The village is set to achieve 100% solar coverage once the remaining 34 mud-walled houses are replaced with modern Indiramma homes. Each household currently generates an impressive 360 units of power monthly, ensuring a continuous, bill-free electricity supply. What’s more, Kondareddypally has turned into a revenue generator, selling surplus energy back to the grid at ₹5.25 per unit, reportedly earning nearly ₹5 lakh in September alone.
This transformative journey began with a ₹10.53 crore green energy project. Funding included a ₹3.56 crore subsidy from the Central Government and ₹4.09 crore from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. An additional ₹2.59 crore was invested in infrastructure, with the project expertly executed by the State’s renewable energy development corporation, crucially involving strong community participation.
A Harmonious Blend of Innovation and Village Life
The residents of Kondareddypally express immense pride in not only achieving energy self-sufficiency but also actively contributing clean power to the state. Officials laud this initiative as a landmark achievement in blending cutting-edge technology with traditional rural life. It stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to reducing carbon footprint, fostering renewable energy adoption, and bolstering local economies. This model village offers an inspiring blueprint for sustainable development across the nation.
Kondareddypally’s success story beautifully illustrates how a clear governmental vision, robust corporate support, and enthusiastic community engagement can collectively pave the way for lasting, positive change in people’s lives.
