The Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Department has initiated a comprehensive, state-wide campaign to enlighten farmers about the recently implemented GST 2.0 reforms. These reforms promise significant tax reductions on a wide range of agricultural and related products.
To reach every corner of the state, the initiative will feature various outreach events. These include engaging awareness seminars, vibrant farm machinery exhibitions, and dynamic tractor rallies, all planned for September 30 and October 1. These events will be hosted at district, mandal, and Raithu Bharosa Kendra (RSK) levels, ensuring widespread participation and understanding among farmers.
According to S. Dilli Rao, the Director of Agriculture, the new GST policy brings substantial relief. Taxes on crucial inputs like fertilizers, pesticides, micronutrients, and bio-pesticides have been slashed from 12% to a mere 5%. Similarly, the tax on tractor spare parts has seen a dramatic drop from 18% to 5%. In total, an impressive 837 items across agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry, and allied sectors now benefit from a reduced 5% tax rate, down from 18%. This move is expected to significantly enhance the purchasing power of small and marginal farmers.
These impactful reforms officially took effect on September 22, marking a new chapter for the agricultural sector. Andhra Pradesh has also made history by being the first state assembly in the nation to pass a resolution endorsing these reforms on September 18.
Following this, Chief Secretary Vijayanand issued Government Order No. 1137 on September 25. This directive mandates 17 state departments to organize extensive awareness programs, strategically timed from the festive season of Dasara through Deepavali. The goal is to clearly demonstrate the economic advantages by presenting clear comparisons of prices before and after the GST changes.
The campaign, proudly running under the slogan “Super GST – Super Savings,” is designed to maximize farmer and beneficiary involvement. It will utilize various informational tools such as posters, pamphlets, and detailed information sheets, all crafted to clearly explain eligible items, new tax rates, expected price variations, and the immediate benefits of reduced costs. This effort underscores a commitment to delivering tangible economic relief and strengthening the farming community.
