K.C. Venugopal, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and a Member of Parliament, recently affirmed that community organizations possess the fundamental right to make their own choices. Addressing the media in Alappuzha on Sunday, September 28, 2025, Mr. Venugopal clarified that the Congress party is not associated with any criticisms directed at the Nair Service Society (NSS).
Venugopal sharply criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), dismissing their overtures towards community organizations as mere “public relations stunts.” He accused the BJP of employing a hypocritical strategy, simultaneously attempting to appease certain groups while actively undermining others. “On one hand, they preach about Christian love,” Venugopal stated, “yet in the states they govern, Christian priests face harassment through critical media articles, legal cases, and even physical attacks. This reflects the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s agenda to dismantle secularism.”
Addressing the contentious issue of alleged vote theft, Mr. Venugopal revealed that the Congress party is spearheading a nationwide protest. As part of this movement, they aim to gather five crore signatures, pressing the Election Commission of India for clear responses to five critical questions regarding electoral integrity.
Furthermore, Venugopal expressed strong reservations about the proposed special intensive revision (SIR) of the voters’ list in Kerala, labeling it unequivocally as “vote theft.” He argued that undertaking such a comprehensive revision of the voter list in Kerala is highly impractical, especially with the upcoming local body elections.
