As Kerala proudly celebrates its 75th anniversary, the state is proactively looking ahead with its inspiring “Vision 2031” initiative. This comprehensive project will involve a series of 33 specialized seminars, each focusing on different thematic sectors. The goal is to rigorously assess current progress and meticulously craft a clear roadmap for Kerala to become a fully developed and progressive state by 2031, as announced by Higher Education and Social Justice Minister R. Bindu.
The very first seminar, which will delve into the critical aspects of social justice and equity within a burgeoning new Kerala, is scheduled for October 3rd at the Regional Theatre in Thrissur.
Minister R. Bindu emphasized that “Vision 2031 is fundamentally about transforming Kerala into a fully developed and inclusive State over the next decade.”
This inaugural seminar perfectly aligns with the golden jubilee celebrations of the Social Justice department. The afternoon sessions at the same venue will feature the State-level Elders’ Day celebration, bringing together senior citizens for a special gathering, along with award presentations and vibrant cultural programs.
Focus on Welfare and Future Roadmaps
The day’s events will commence with registration, followed by a presentation from Social Justice department Special Secretary Adeela Abdullah, who will offer a comprehensive overview of major welfare schemes implemented throughout the last decade. Following this, Dr. Bindu will officially unveil the Vision 2031 document specifically for social justice, laying out a detailed future strategy.
Five concurrent panel discussions will then take place, bringing together renowned national and international experts. These discussions will cover crucial topics such as elderly welfare, disability rights, transgender rights, probation services, and the enhancement of educational-welfare institutions. Key recommendations from each session will be compiled and presented during a public session, which will be chaired by the Minister. Approximately 600 delegates, including subject matter experts, government officials, elected representatives, and observers, are expected to attend.
Dr. Bindu highlighted the department’s long-standing commitment, stating, “Since its inception in 1975, the department’s core mission has always revolved around supporting women, children, and marginalized communities. Transitioning from social welfare to social justice, the department has consistently championed dignity and equity.” She further noted, “The golden jubilee will not just commemorate our past achievements but also serve as a vital launchpad for exciting new initiatives.”
Golden Jubilee Celebrations and New Initiatives
To mark this significant jubilee year, the department is gearing up to introduce several flagship programs. These include vocational training tailored for intellectually challenged individuals, a dedicated sports scheme to support differently-abled athletes, a streamlined one-stop online registration platform for disability sector institutions, and the establishment of short-stay centers designed to offer respite to caregivers of persons with disabilities. The official unveiling of these impactful campaigns will occur on October 3rd.
The State-level Elders’ Day awards ceremony will also be a highlight, with veteran actor Sheela and esteemed singer P.K. Medini receiving lifetime achievement awards. Additionally, Amaravila Ramakrishnan, a distinguished member of the State Senior Citizens’ Commission, will be specially honored for his invaluable contributions. Eleven other deserving awardees across various categories will also be recognized for their work.
