On September 28, 2025, Bengaluru South Member of Parliament, Tejasvi Surya, officially commenced the installation of piped natural gas (PNG) lines in Jayanagar’s SBI Colony, J.P. Nagar 1st Phase. This vital project represents a substantial leap towards providing urban households with a more environmentally friendly, secure, and budget-friendly energy source.
In an official press release, Mr. Surya underscored the significant economic advantages of PNG. He emphasized that families transitioning to piped gas could anticipate average savings of ₹200 to ₹300 per cylinder. Furthermore, he highlighted PNG’s inherent safety benefits compared to traditional liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
Mr. Surya also conveyed the central government’s commitment, stating, ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration is dedicated to achieving 100% PNG coverage across Bengaluru.’ He noted that currently, residents in Bommanahalli and the BTM constituency within Bengaluru South are already benefiting from piped gas connections.
The initial phase of the PNG rollout in SBI Layout is estimated to cost between ₹1.5 to ₹2 crore, with GAIL (Gas Authority of India Limited) responsible for establishing the complete infrastructure.
Accompanying the MP at the launch event were BJP MLA C.K. Ramamurthy, GAIL CGM Sanjay Singh, and several other prominent BJP leaders, signifying a unified effort for this community-focused initiative.
