In a significant crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, five individuals have been apprehended in Kurnool for attempting to smuggle ganja. The suspects employed a cunning method, meticulously stashing the illicit substance in small packets within the car doors, hoping to evade law enforcement.
Kurnool Deputy Superintendent of Police, J. Babu Prasad, confirmed the arrests, stating that the operation unfolded on Sunday evening. Acting on a crucial tip-off regarding ganja transportation, police initiated a thorough vehicle inspection at Bellary Chowrasta. Despite initial questioning of the car’s five occupants yielding no immediate results, officers proceeded with a more exhaustive search.
Their persistence paid off when they uncovered cleverly concealed ganja sachets embedded within the vehicle’s doors. DSP Prasad revealed that the suspects were transporting the ganja from the Andhra Odisha Border (AOB) with the intention of selling it in Kurnool city. Authorities successfully seized a total of 20 kilograms of ganja, estimated to be worth approximately ₹80,000. The syndicate reportedly planned to repackage the ganja into smaller units for sale at ₹500 each.
The alleged mastermind, M. Narendra from Panchalingala, Kurnool, is no stranger to such crimes, having been previously arrested for a similar offense three years ago. The other arrested individuals have been identified as N. Umesh Chandra, S. Mrutyunjay Reddy, Sk. Mahammed Arif, and P. Chakali Goverdhan.
All the accused are remarkably young, reportedly under 25 years of age. DSP Babu Prasad emphasized that investigations are ongoing to trace the origin of the ganja and identify those involved in its distribution network within the city.
