Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan recently announced a significant infrastructure boost, promising the completion of three strategically important bridges, fully funded by Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), within a tight 18-month timeframe. The announcement was made during the inauguration of construction for these bridges, set to be built in the Puliyampilly, Madathimoola, and Chovvara areas, at an impressive total cost of ₹40 crore.
These new bridges are a cornerstone of the ‘Operation Pravah’ initiative, a critical project designed to fortify the regions surrounding the airport against the persistent threat of floods. Specifically, the Puliyampilly bridge is planned to span 200 meters, the Chovvara bridge will stretch 114 meters, and the Madathimoola bridge will measure 177 meters in length. These developments are expected to bring substantial relief and improved connectivity to residents across Chengamanadu, Sreemoolanagaram, Kanjoor, and Kalady grama panchayats.
Chief Minister Vijayan emphasized CIAL’s community-centric approach, stating, “CIAL meticulously plans each of its projects with the welfare of local communities in mind, ensuring they directly benefit from the airport’s growth. A significant portion of CIAL’s profits is dedicated to regional infrastructure development and public well-being.”
The event was presided over by Industries Minister P. Rajeeve and attended by several notable personalities, including Benny Behanan, MP; Anwar Sadath, MLA; Roji M. John, MLA; Chief Secretary A. Jayathilak; CIAL Managing Director S. Suhas; and Airport Director Manu G.
