Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyannapatrudu recently emphasized the vital role of the newly established joint committees. Speaking on Saturday, September 27, he stated that these committees are crucial for delivering justice to the populace and for robust democratic governance.
During the inaugural meeting of eight such joint committees at the Assembly premises, the Speaker highlighted that these bodies are the ‘lifeline of legislatures.’ He explained that since it’s impractical for the full House to be in session all year, committees shoulder the legislative burden. “Committees effectively distribute the Assembly’s workload, operate continuously throughout the year, and ensure balanced representation from both the Assembly and the Council,” he noted.
Mr. Ayyannapatrudu strongly encouraged committee members to undertake field visits to districts, directly engage with citizens, understand their concerns, and propose practical solutions. He also suggested conducting study tours to other states when beneficial. The Speaker stressed that these committees are instrumental in scrutinizing governance and upholding accountability.
Furthermore, he emphasized that proactive measures for the welfare of women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities are not just ethical imperatives but fundamental constitutional obligations. He added that advancing the development of backward, unorganized, and minority communities remains another significant area where these committees play a pivotal role.
The meeting also saw the participation of Legislative Council Chairman Koyye Moshenu Raju and Legislature Secretary-General Prasanna Kumar Suryadevara, signaling a united front in strengthening legislative processes.
