Andhra Pradesh has kicked off the fiscal year 2025-26 with a powerful economic surge, registering a Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth that far exceeds the national average. This impressive start solidifies its position as one of India’s most rapidly expanding states.
During the 4th Collectors’ Conference, held on Monday, September 15, 2025, the Planning Department unveiled its GSDP review report. It highlighted that the state’s GSDP grew by a remarkable 10.5% in the first quarter (Q1), significantly higher than the national average of 8.8%. Furthermore, the Gross Value Added (GVA) saw a substantial increase to 10.76%, a notable rise from 9.4% recorded in the same quarter of the previous year.
Key sectors played a pivotal role in this growth. The Agriculture and allied sectors, valued at ₹81,496 crore, expanded by 9.6% — a stark contrast to the national average of 3.2%. Within this, livestock grew by 6.65%, while fisheries and aquaculture experienced an impressive 14.5% surge.
The Industry sector, contributing ₹92,843 crore to the economy, expanded by 11.9%, far surpassing India’s average of 6.8%. This growth was primarily driven by an extraordinary 43.5% increase in mining and quarrying, thanks to higher mineral output. Manufacturing also showed strong performance, registering nearly 10% growth. The services sector, valued at ₹1,57,321 crore, grew by 10.7% during this quarter.
Introducing District-Level Economic Monitoring
In a pioneering move, Andhra Pradesh has begun compiling Gross District Domestic Product (GDDP) estimates at the district level. This initiative has already shown promising results, with the state achieving 19.2% of its annual GDDP target within the first quarter alone. Districts such as Srikakulam, Prakasam, Eluru, NTR, and Tirupati demonstrated exceptional performance, each surpassing 20% of their yearly goals.
A Clear Vision for Future Growth
The state remains firmly on track to achieve its ambitious GSDP target of ₹18.65 lakh crore for the fiscal year 2025-26. This objective is deeply integrated with the overarching ‘Swarna Andhra Vision 2047’, a long-term strategy for comprehensive development. Through targeted interventions across agriculture, industry, and services, Andhra Pradesh is dedicated to solidifying its growth trajectory and securing a prosperous future.
Enhancing Accountability with Key Performance Indicators
To ensure effective governance alongside economic advancements, Andhra Pradesh has implemented a robust performance monitoring framework. This system incorporates 512 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across 28 government departments, fostering transparency and accountability.
According to officials from the Planning Department, several sectors have excelled: Housing, Secondary Education, and Tribal Welfare all achieved an ‘A+’ rating with scores of 100% and 97% respectively. Mid-range performers included Health (83, A), Revenue (82, A), and Panchayat Raj (81, A). Areas identified for improvement include Agriculture Marketing (27, C) and BC Welfare (25, C).
At the district level, all regions scored within the ‘B’ range (58–64), with West Godavari and Nandyal leading at 64. Among mandals, Anantapur Urban (82, A) achieved the highest ranking, while Pedabayalu in ASR district (49, C) was at the lower end of the spectrum.
Looking ahead, the government plans to expand the KPI framework to include over 600 indicators. This enhanced system will feature real-time alerts, cross-departmental integration, and monthly reviews personally conducted by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, further strengthening transparency and accountability as part of the ‘Swarna Andhra Vision 2047’.
