Union Minister for Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, recently declared a landmark achievement for India: the nation has become the fifth in the world to indigenously manufacture telecom equipment. This momentous announcement coincided with the launch of BSNL’s groundbreaking indigenous 4G stack on Saturday.
Speaking at an event in Guwahati, which was part of a nationwide rollout initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Odisha, Minister Scindia highlighted India’s profound shift. He stated, “Previously, India was largely seen as a service provider and a consumer nation. Today, that image has transformed. We are now recognized globally as a powerhouse of production, innovation, entrepreneurship, and exports.”
Underlining the vision of Prime Minister Modi to ‘innovate for India, innovate for humanity,’ Scindia emphasized that India now stands shoulder-to-shoulder with technologically advanced nations like Denmark, Sweden, China, and South Korea in its capability to produce its own telecom hardware.
This indigenous 4G launch is set to revolutionize connectivity, bringing high-speed internet access to previously underserved regions. Remote villages, challenging border areas, isolated islands, hilly terrains, and locations with limited internet access will all benefit, significantly bridging the digital divide across the country.
