The woman suspected of driving the BMW car involved in a recent fatal accident in New Delhi, which tragically killed a senior finance ministry official, is now in police custody. She was arrested on Monday, September 15, 2025, shortly after being discharged from the hospital.
The victim was identified as 52-year-old Navjot Singh, a Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, residing in Hari Nagar. He lost his life in the collision that occurred on Sunday afternoon, September 14, 2025, on the Ring Road near the Delhi Cantonment Metro station. His wife, who was riding with him on their motorcycle, suffered severe injuries. The couple had been returning home after a visit to the Bangla Sahib Gurdwara.
Both the woman allegedly driving the luxury car and her husband also sustained injuries in the incident. The couple, from Gurugram, received treatment at a hospital.
Following her discharge, the woman was immediately apprehended by police for further interrogation and legal proceedings, a police officer confirmed.
Authorities have registered a case of culpable homicide in connection with the tragic event. Charges have been filed under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including section 281 for rash driving or riding on a public way, section 125B for acts endangering life or personal safety of others, section 105 for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and section 238 for causing disappearance of evidence of an offense or providing false information to protect an offender.
Both the luxury car and the two-wheeler involved in the collision have been seized by the police. A comprehensive forensic examination of the accident site has also been carried out as part of the ongoing investigation.
