K.M. Shajahan, a notable YouTuber, has been granted bail after his recent arrest. The arrest stemmed from a complaint filed by CPI(M) leader K.J. Shine, who accused Shajahan of defamation through videos published on social media. The bail was granted on Friday, September 26, 2025.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate in Ernakulam approved Mr. Shajahan’s release on bail, set at ₹25,000. As part of his bail conditions, he is required to fully cooperate with the ongoing police investigation and strictly avoid engaging in any similar alleged offenses.
During the proceedings, Mr. Shajahan’s legal representative, John S. Ralph, argued against the need for custodial interrogation, asserting a lack of sufficient grounds. Ralph also contested the application of Section 67A of the Information Technology Act, contending it was unwarranted since no sexually explicit material, as legally defined, had been published or transmitted electronically by his client.
A Special Investigation Team carried out Mr. Shajahan’s arrest from his home in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday night, September 25, 2025. This action followed the initial complaint, and police have also initiated legal proceedings against local Congress leader C.K. Gopalakrishnan in connection with the same matter.
