In a significant development, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) successfully apprehended a Sub-Inspector from the Manuguru police station in Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Friday. The arrest follows the registration of a serious case of criminal misconduct against the officer.
The accused officer, identified as Bathini Ranjith, stands accused of soliciting a bribe of ₹40,000 from a complainant. This alleged demand initiated the ACB’s investigation and subsequent action.
Sources within the ACB reveal that the illicit payment was allegedly demanded in exchange for issuing official notices under Section 35(3) of the recently enacted Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) Act to the complainant and their sibling.
Following the formal registration of the corruption case, Sub-Inspector Ranjith was promptly arrested and presented before the special court designated for SPE (Special Police Establishment) and ACB cases in Warangal.
Authorities confirm that a thorough investigation into the matter is currently ongoing.
In light of this incident, the ACB has reiterated its appeal to the public to promptly report any instances of bribery demanded by government officials. Citizens can reach out through their toll-free helpline, 1064, or lodge complaints confidentially via platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, or X (formerly Twitter). The bureau assures complete anonymity for all complainants.
