In a candid conversation, filmmaker Boney Kapoor revealed touching insights into his personal life, particularly the profound impact of his marriages on his family. Speaking with Chanda Kochhar on her YouTube channel, Kapoor delved into the emotional journey of his two marriages – first to Mona Shourie Kapoor in 1983, and later to the iconic Sridevi in 1996.
He shared a poignant detail about the wedding rings he and Sridevi wore, disclosing that they were purchased by his first wife, Mona. “Look at this ring I’m wearing and the one Sridevi was wearing. Both were bought by Mona,” Kapoor disclosed. He expressed deep gratitude for Mona’s understanding and maturity, noting that she raised their children without fostering any animosity towards him or his second family, a sentiment that allowed for a more peaceful transition during a challenging time.
Kapoor also spoke about the immense emotional strain of balancing his two families, especially when Sridevi faced personal tragedies, including the loss of both her parents. He recalled receiving a letter from his son Arjun Kapoor asking him to come home, a plea that weighed heavily on him. “I was divided. On one side was my wife (Sridevi), and on the other side were my kids. I couldn’t leave her alone,” he explained, acknowledging the difficult position he was in.
Despite the initial controversies and the pain his second marriage may have caused, Boney Kapoor expressed immense pride and gratitude that his children – Arjun, Anshula, Janhvi, and Khushi Kapoor – are now united and share a strong bond. He feels blessed that, following Sridevi’s passing in 2018, his children have come together, creating a harmonious and loving blended family.
