The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Toaru Anbu no ITEM, known in English as A Certain Item of Dark Side, has officially announced a 2026 broadcast window. Enthusiasts of the wider ‘A Certain Series,’ which includes beloved titles like A Certain Magical Index and A Certain Scientific Accelerator, can now look forward to this new chapter.
Leading the production is Tatsuyuki Nagai, celebrated for his work on A Certain Scientific Railgun, who will be directing the series at the renowned J.C.STAFF studio. Character designs will be handled by Shigeki Kimoto, known for his contributions to Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?.
The confirmed voice cast for Toaru Anbu no ITEM features a lineup of familiar talents:
* Shizuri Mugino will be brought to life by Ami Koshimizu, recognized as Mizuki in Lycoris Recoil.
* Riko Takitsubo will be voiced by Aya Suzaki, known for her role as Kaede in Assassination Classroom.
* Frenda Seivelun’s voice will be provided by Maaya Uchida, who played Francesca in Fate/strange Fake.
* Saiai Kinuhata will be portrayed by Chinatsu Akasaki, known for her work as Miyu in Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online.
Toaru Anbu no ITEM originated as a light novel series penned by Kazuma Kamachi and beautifully illustrated by Nilitsu. It first launched under Dengeki Bunko in March 2023 and has since expanded to six volumes. A compelling manga adaptation, drawn by strelka, is currently serialized in Dengeki Diaoh and has collected two volumes to date. The narrative follows an elite, clandestine unit dedicated to undertaking perilous secret missions within the shadowy ‘dark side’ of Academy City.
