Kalaburagi, a district in north Karnataka, has been grappling with severe floods. In a proactive move, local Lok Sabha member Radhakrishna Doddamani has announced that 2,500 essential food kits will be distributed to affected residents starting September 26, facilitated by the district administration.
The relentless rainfall over the past week has caused the Bhima and Bennethora rivers to burst their banks, compelling hundreds of villagers from low-lying regions to evacuate to safety. Makeshift relief centers, established in government schools, community halls, and temples, are currently providing shelter and vital supplies to women, children, and the elderly.
Dedicated teams of officials are now on the ground, managing these relief camps and ensuring safety across all flood-affected villages. Mr. Doddamani emphasized the unwavering commitment of both the Karnataka government and the district administration to deliver swift aid. Directives have already been issued to promptly assess the damage to crops and homes caused by the heavy downpour.
Further, Mr. Doddamani pledged to expedite efforts in securing both Central and State funds crucial for the urgent restoration of critical infrastructure, including national highways and other damaged roads, essential for the region’s recovery.
