The Kerala Government Medical College Teachers Association (KGMCTA) is preparing to intensify its ongoing protests, citing the state government’s continued neglect of their critical concerns. These issues include the delayed release of salary and dearness allowance arrears, significant anomalies in the pay structure for entry-level teaching positions, and the slow pace of creating new essential posts in recently established government medical colleges (GMCs).
In a statement issued by KGMCTA State president T. Rosnara Begum and general secretary C.S. Aravind, the association announced a comprehensive ‘non-cooperation strike’ commencing soon. This action will involve members refraining from official discussions and boycotting theory classes from early next week. Further planned demonstrations include a candlelight protest and a dharna (sit-in protest) to be held across all government medical colleges at a later date.
The KGMCTA had already signaled their seriousness by observing a ‘black day’ and organizing a statewide dharna recently. Association leaders have issued a stern warning: if their long-standing demands continue to be ignored, medical professionals will be compelled to halt all teaching activities in phases, and even outpatient department (OPD) services will be boycotted in the near future.
