Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, has openly criticized Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for the ongoing stalemate concerning the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase II expansion. Reddy described the Chief Minister’s stance as ‘unreasonable’ during a press interaction in New Delhi on Thursday.
“The Hyderabad Metro is already facing significant financial losses. When financial institutions consider offering loans, they demand clear answers on various project aspects. It is the State government’s responsibility to address this critical issue seriously and find a resolution. We are committed to providing our full support for the Metro rail’s expansion,” Mr. Reddy stated.
He further elaborated that Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had raised specific concerns regarding the agreement between L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad—the current operator of Phase I under a Public-Private Partnership—and the newly established Hyderabad Airport Metro Rail Limited (HAML), which is slated to manage the Phase II construction.
The BJP leader affirmed his dedication to securing funds and projects that benefit the people of Telangana. “We have established a dedicated cell within our ministry to oversee all development projects in Telangana. Our party is genuinely committed to the state’s progress. We have been proactive on critical issues like the Regional Ring Road (RRR) and the Hyderabad Metro Rail, submitting our proposals well in advance,” he added. Regarding the ongoing CBI inquiry into the Kaleshwaram project, he confirmed that the received proposals are currently under thorough review.
KTR’s ‘Irresponsible’ Remarks on Gen Z
The Union Minister also strongly condemned the recent remarks made by BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao concerning Gen Z, which he found to be ‘anti-national’. Reddy challenged Rama Rao, asking, “Is KTR implying that incidents reminiscent of those in Nepal – such as attacks on the Prime Minister’s residence, ministers’ homes, and even judicial institutions – should be replicated here?”
