In a significant step towards ensuring the safety and dignity of its senior population, the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate, alongside the Rachakonda Security Council, has proudly unveiled its ‘Golden Care’ program. This initiative is designed to be a robust support system for senior citizens, offering crucial assistance across various challenging situations.
Key services under ‘Golden Care’ include aiding elders in reporting financial scams, intervening in cases of neglect and abandonment, investigating instances of physical or emotional abuse, and helping to trace lost belongings or missing individuals.
The program is firmly rooted in legal provisions, notably leveraging Section 144 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which holds individuals accountable for neglecting dependents. It also draws upon the Maintenance Act, enabling senior citizens to legally claim support from their children, reinforcing their right to care.
Commissioner of Police G. Sudheer Babu, who also chairs the Rachakonda Security Council, emphasized that ‘Golden Care’ transcends mere security. It embodies a commitment to compassion, dignity, and respect for senior citizens. He highlighted their invaluable role as pillars of wisdom and strength within society, stating that this program is a testament to recognizing their enduring contributions.
Beyond immediate assistance, ‘Golden Care’ also extends its reach through regular outreach visits, offers vital emotional support, conducts cyber safety awareness campaigns, provides medical and emergency aid via hospital partnerships, and guides seniors through government welfare schemes, including pensions, medical benefits, and health insurance.
Senior citizens requiring assistance can easily connect with the ‘Golden Care’ program by calling the dedicated helpline at 14567 or by sending a message to the Rachakonda WhatsApp number: 8712662111.
The launch event saw attendance from several Deputy Commissioners of Police from Rachakonda, Security Council Joint Secretary Siva Karadi, Chief Coordinator Savithri Suryanarayana, other senior officers, and RKSC Traffic Marshals. Regular review meetings are planned to continually enhance and expand the program’s vital services.
