Authorities in Tirunelveli district are currently investigating a deeply concerning incident involving two Class 9 students from a government-aided higher secondary school near Valliyoor. The Ervadi police have taken one student in for questioning after he allegedly attacked a classmate with a machete, reportedly stemming from a minor dispute.
According to police statements, the altercation began on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. The victim, a teenage boy from a Scheduled Caste community and a resident of the school hostel (originally from Sankarankovil, Tenkasi district), is said to have made offensive remarks directed at the father of a classmate, who belongs to an intermediate caste.
While other students and teachers initially intervened to calm the situation, the tension regrettably escalated. The following day, Thursday, the student from the intermediate caste reportedly brought a machete to school. He then attacked the SC student inside their classroom, causing a significant injury to his back. The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he received six sutures to control the bleeding.
Upon receiving notification from the school administration, Ervadi police swiftly responded to the scene and apprehended the alleged assailant. The injured student, after receiving necessary medical treatment and being discharged, was subsequently brought to the police station to aid with the ongoing inquiry.
Further investigations into this alarming incident are actively underway.
