The Mumbai Indians have officially announced the appointment of Lisa Keightley, a distinguished former Australian cricketer and two-time World Cup champion, as the new head coach for their formidable women’s team, effective Thursday, September 25, 2025.
Renowned as one of the most esteemed figures in women’s cricket coaching, Keightley’s impressive career includes stints across Australia, England, and various elite global leagues. She was an integral part of Australia’s World Cup-winning squads in both 1997 and 2005, bringing a wealth of playing and strategic experience.
The Mumbai Indians women’s team has already cemented its place as a dominant force in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), clinching two titles in just three seasons—including the inaugural edition in 2023 and another victory in 2025. This move signals their ambition to continue their winning streak.
Nita Ambani, the owner of Mumbai Indians, expressed immense enthusiasm about the appointment, stating, "We are thrilled to welcome Lisa Keightley to the Mumbai Indians family. A true trailblazer in women’s cricket, Lisa has consistently inspired generations through her unwavering passion, deep expertise, and pioneering spirit. Her arrival marks an exciting new chapter for Mumbai Indians as we aspire to reach even greater heights and further solidify our legacy of excellence."
Keightley shared her excitement, remarking, "It’s an honour to join the Mumbai Indians, a team that has truly set the benchmark in the WPL. The commitment to excellence and nurturing environment here is something I profoundly admire. I eagerly anticipate collaborating with this exceptionally talented group to build upon our past successes and continue to inspire both on and off the field."
Lisa Keightley boasts a unique coaching pedigree, having led both the Australian and England women’s national teams—she notably became the first woman to serve as England’s full-time head coach. Her extensive franchise experience extends to prestigious competitions like the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and The Hundred, where she most recently guided the Northern Superchargers to the women’s title just last month.
As a player, Keightley, an opening batter, proudly represented Australia in nine Test matches, 82 One Day Internationals, and one Twenty20 International, showcasing her deep understanding of the game from every angle.
