A vehicle unexpectedly erupted in flames on Mumbai’s newly opened Coastal Road early Thursday morning, prompting immediate action from authorities to halt traffic movement on the vital route. The incident, which occurred around 9:30 AM, took place inside the south-bound tunnel of the Coastal Road.
In response to the emergency, the Mumbai Traffic Police quickly advised commuters via their X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating, “Traffic movement is stopped at Coastal Road (Tardeo) south bound and north bound due to car fire.” Consequently, traffic was efficiently diverted at key intersections, including Haji Ali and the Worli connector, to manage the flow of vehicles.
Thanks to a rapid response from emergency services and traffic police, the situation was brought under control swiftly. Approximately 30 minutes after the initial report, the city traffic department confirmed that the route was cleared, and traffic flow was restored to normalcy, minimizing prolonged inconvenience for thousands of commuters.
