An active cadre belonging to the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has been arrested in connection with the September 19 ambush on an Assam Rifles convoy in Manipur. The ambush tragically claimed the lives of two Assam Rifles personnel and left five others injured.
The arrest was made following a special operation conducted by a joint team of police from Imphal West and Bishnupur districts, along with personnel from the 33 Assam Rifles and other security forces. The operation was based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of militants in the Kameng area.
The apprehended individual, identified as Khomdram Ojit Singh @ Keilal (47), admitted during questioning to being a bailed-out member of the PLA and directly involved in the ambush. Following his confession, a significant quantity of arms and ammunition, including INSAS rifles and magazines used in the attack, were recovered from a hidden location near Loktak Lake.
The ambush occurred on September 19 at Nambol Sabal Leikai, approximately 8 km from Imphal Airport. The Manipur Director General of Police (DGP), Rajiv Singh, stated that further raids are being conducted to apprehend other individuals involved in the incident. Singh also noted that the accused had a prior arrest record in 2007.
The PLA is identified as the armed wing of the banned Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) insurgent outfit in Manipur.
