Karnataka’s Minister of Medical Education, Sharan Prakash Patil, recently highlighted the critical importance of fostering a new generation of healthcare professionals. He stressed that medical education should go beyond simply producing doctors, nurses, pharmacists, or researchers. Instead, the focus must be on cultivating individuals who possess deep compassion, genuine humanity, and unwavering professionalism, alongside their medical knowledge.
During the Teachers’ Day celebrations at Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Dr. Patil further elaborated on his vision. He asserted that, in addition to mastering technical skills, medical practitioners must also hone their communication abilities and cultivate empathy. He emphasized that a doctor’s conduct and interaction with patients are just as vital as their clinical expertise, recognizing the medical field as a unique blend of service and profession.
He proudly noted Karnataka’s leadership in medical education, specifically acknowledging RGUHS as the premier medical university nationwide.
Adding to this, Dr. Bhagwan B.C., Vice-Chancellor of RGUHS, detailed the university’s proactive engagement in forging partnerships with international universities. These collaborations aim to unlock global opportunities for Indian students, thereby equipping them with world-class skills and enabling them to effectively address India’s evolving healthcare demands.
Dr. Bhagwan reiterated RGUHS’s steadfast commitment to empowering both its students and faculty. This includes fostering not only academic excellence and research but also strong professional skill development. He concluded by affirming the university’s goal, through partnerships with institutions in England and other nations, to broaden international prospects for its academic community.
