Telangana’s Revenue Minister Lays Foundation for Massive 9,700 MT Cold Storage Unit in Khammam

Telangana’s ‘People’s Government,’ known as Praja Prabhutvam, is making significant strides in enhancing agricultural infrastructure. Revenue, Housing, and Information & Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy announced plans to construct new warehouses with a combined storage capacity exceeding 5 lakh metric tonnes, a move designed to greatly benefit farmers across the state.

These state-of-the-art storage facilities are projected for completion within the next three years. Minister Reddy highlighted the current government’s rapid expansion efforts, noting that the previous administration managed to increase warehousing capacity by 3 lakh metric tonnes over a decade following Telangana’s formation.

The Minister’s announcement came during a significant event on Wednesday, where he laid the foundation stone for a substantial cold storage unit. Located in M Venkatayapalem village, Khammam rural mandal, this project boasts a 9,700 metric tonne capacity and is estimated to cost ₹15 crore.

Once completed within a year, this modern cold storage facility is expected to be a game-changer for local farmers, providing a crucial resource for preserving their agricultural and horticultural produce and minimizing post-harvest losses.

Minister Reddy also detailed the Congress government’s extensive welfare programs for farmers. He proudly stated that financial aid through the ‘Rythu Bharosa’ scheme has been boosted to ₹12,000 per acre, alongside a massive ₹21,000 crore waiver of crop loans, positively impacting 25 lakh farmers.

Emphasizing the commitment to sustainable agriculture and increased farmer income, the state government is actively distributing high-quality seeds. Reddy recalled their recent protest in New Delhi, where they advocated fiercely for Telangana’s rightful share of urea, criticizing the Central government’s inaction. He assured that this critical urea supply issue would be resolved within the coming week.

Following these events, the Minister extended his participation to community welfare, attending the housewarming ceremonies for numerous beneficiaries of the ‘Indiramma Housing Scheme’ in Arempula village, also located in Khammam rural mandal.

Distinguished guests at the events included R. Nageshwar Rao, Chairman of the Telangana State Warehousing Corporation (TGSWC), and Khammam Collector Anudeep Durishetty, among other officials.
