On Tuesday, District Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar convened an important consultative meeting with representatives from various political parties in Cuddalore. The discussion primarily focused on the extensive reorganization of polling booths and the eagerly anticipated Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
Following directives from the Election Commission to split polling booths with over 1,200 voters, Cuddalore district is set to gain 277 new polling stations. This restructuring aims to facilitate a more efficient and seamless voting process, bringing the total number of booths in the district to 2,590.
As per the electoral roll released on January 6, 2025, Cuddalore district initially had 2,313 polling stations. These were distributed across various constituencies: Thittagudi (Reserved) with 248, Vriddhachalam with 288, Neyveli with 234, Panruti with 259, Cuddalore with 227, Kurunjipadi with 259, Bhuvanagiri with 283, Chidambaram with 260, and Kattumannarkovil (Reserved) with 255.
The creation of 277 new polling stations stems from the bifurcation of existing booths exceeding 1,200 voters. Specifically, Thittagudi will see 31 new booths, Vriddhachalam 29, Neyveli 22, Panruti 50, Cuddalore 31, Kurunjipadi 19, Bhuvanagiri 21, Chidambaram 38, and Kattumannarkovil 36, ensuring improved voter access.
During the meeting, Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar assured party representatives that suitable locations have been identified for all new polling booths, strictly adhering to the Election Commission of India’s guidelines. He emphasized that with the ongoing voter roll revision, the entire restructuring process would be finalized promptly.
He further announced that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise is imminent and urged political parties to promptly nominate their booth-level agents to oversee the process and ensure its smooth execution.
