India Bids to Host 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, Eyeing Centenary Celebration

India has officially submitted its compelling proposal to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad! A high-level delegation traveled to London to present their vision to the Commonwealth Sport Evaluation Committee.

Leading this ambitious charge were Gujarat’s dynamic Minister of Sports, Harsh Sanghavi, and the legendary Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President, P.T. Usha, who presented the bid on September 23, 2025.

This particular edition of the Games holds immense historical weight, celebrating a full century of the Commonwealth Sport Movement. India’s bid places Ahmedabad at the forefront as a potential host for this truly monumental centenary event, as announced in a statement by the Gujarat government.

Ahmedabad’s proposal boasts a carefully planned, compact Games layout, featuring world-class venues, efficient transport networks, and top-tier accommodation, ensuring a seamless experience for athletes and visitors alike.

The bid is deeply rooted in the “Games Reset” principles, with a strong focus on creating an event that is affordable, inclusive, flexible, and sustainable. It promises full integration of para-sports, robust protection of human rights, active promotion of gender equity, and a comprehensive long-term legacy framework designed to bring lasting benefits to athletes, local communities, and the entire Commonwealth.

Minister Sanghavi passionately stated, “Bringing the Centenary Commonwealth Games to Ahmedabad would be an incredible achievement, not just for Gujarat, but for all of India. We envision these Games as a powerful catalyst to inspire our youth, accelerate our nation’s progress towards ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ (Developed India 2047), and fortify the Commonwealth Movement for the century to come.”

P.T. Usha emphasized that “India’s bid isn’t solely about our capacity to host, but about the profound values we uphold. Ahmedabad is poised to proudly take the torch from Glasgow 2026, serving as a dynamic launchpad for the 2034 Games and ensuring that this centenary celebration both respects our rich sporting history and boldly paves the way for the future of Commonwealth Sport.”

Backed by the robust and collaborative support of both the Central and Gujarat governments, alongside the Commonwealth Games Association of India, this proposal clearly articulates India’s unwavering ambition: to host Games that are not only compact and sustainable but also deeply inclusive and globally impactful.
