The city of Hyderabad is buzzing with preparations to welcome the prestigious 350th Shaheedi Shatabdi Nagar Kirtan Yatra, a grand procession commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru. This spiritual journey is scheduled to arrive in Hyderabad on September 25.
Having commenced its epic voyage last month from Gurdwara Dhubri Sahib in Assam, the procession is traversing an impressive 23 states. Its ultimate destination is Anandpur Sahib, Punjab, where it will conclude on November 23. The primary objective of this extensive yatra is to enlighten communities nationwide about the Guru’s supreme sacrifice and his enduring, universal teachings.
In anticipation of this momentous event, the Central Committee of Gurudwara Saheban (CCGS)-Telangana has meticulously organized elaborate reception arrangements for the sacred palanquin, which carries the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhs. The procession is expected to be warmly welcomed at Ghatkesar at 4 p.m.
Later in the evening, at 7:30 p.m., a magnificent Nagar Kirtan will commence from Kishenbagh X Road. This grand parade will feature Chowki Sahebans from various local gurdwaras, winding its way through Puratan Gurudwara Saheb Asha Singh Bagh Saheeda Singh Asthan before making an overnight halt at Gurudwara Saheb Baram Bala in Sikh Chawni.
S. Gurucharan Singh, chairman of the CCGS, extended a heartfelt invitation to people from all communities to participate in the procession. He emphasized, “Guru Saheb’s supreme sacrifice serves as a powerful reminder that defending faith and humanity is our highest duty. This Nagar Kirtan is not exclusively for Sikhs; it is a celebration for everyone. When individuals of all faiths unite, the message of brotherhood and communal harmony resonates far and wide.”
During its overnight stay at Gurudwara Saheb Baram Bala, devotees can partake in spiritual gatherings, including kirtan (devotional singing) and langar (community meal). Thousands are anticipated to join the devotional singers and priest narrators in prayer and reflection. The yatra will then resume its onward journey the following morning, heading towards Vijayawada in neighboring Andhra Pradesh.
