Mysuru, famously known as the City of Palaces, is currently immersed in a vibrant festive spirit, absolutely glowing with its renowned Dasara illumination. This grand spectacle adds an extra layer of magnificence to the city, captivating all who witness it.
The dazzling light show was officially inaugurated by Energy Minister K.J. George on Monday evening at the Green Canopy on Sayyaji Rao Road. Each year, the Dasara illumination, a primary highlight of Mysuru’s festive season, expands in scale and brilliance, consistently drawing immense crowds eager to marvel at the city’s luminous transformation.
Under the meticulous organization of the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC), this year’s display is more extensive than ever. It illuminates an impressive 136 kilometers of roads and 118 major junctions. Following a directive from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for a 10-day extension, these lights will sparkle for a total of 21 days, from September 22 to October 12. Visitors can also admire approximately 80 intricate LED replicas, each depicting diverse themes, strategically placed across the city.
CESC reports that this monumental lighting effort will consume around 300 kW of power, totaling 2.57 lakh units of electricity throughout the illumination period.
Adding a unique flair to this year’s display, Kolkata-style lighting has been integrated into select areas, casting dynamic and vibrant patterns across the streets. Prominent routes, including the enchanting palace surroundings, Sayyaji Rao Road, Irwin Road, Albert Victor Road, JLB Road, Chamaraja Double Road, and significant intersections like K.R. Circle, Chamaraja Circle, Jayachamaraja Circle, and LIC Circle, are all beautifully lit, garnering widespread admiration from tourists and locals alike.
Minister K.J. George expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This year’s illumination has been designed to be more attractive and grander than any before. We are even aiming for a Guinness record. The Chief Minister specifically asked us to make it spectacular, and we hope everyone enjoys the illumination and celebrates Dasara with immense joy.”
Distinguished guests present at the inauguration included Suja George, the Minister’s wife; Tanveer Sait, MLA for Narasimharaja; Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda, Chairman of CESC; K.M. Munigopal Raju, Managing Director of CESC; and various other senior officials.
In the interest of public safety, CESC has issued a cautionary note, advising citizens to remain vigilant, maintain a safe distance from electrical poles and fixtures, especially during rainfall. A dedicated 24×7 helpline (1912) is also available for any complaints or concerns.
Thrilling Drone Show Announced
A highly anticipated new attraction this year is the spectacular Drone Show, also organized by CESC, to be held at the Bannimantap Parade Grounds. Building on the success of last year’s 1,500-drone event, this year’s shows will feature an astounding 3,000 drones on September 28, 29, October 1, and 2, promising to create breathtaking aerial patterns against the night sky.
