Reading Time: 2 min

The journey toward a fulfilling career often begins with a single, thoughtful choice. This powerful sentiment was shared by Jayaseelan Murugaiyan, Associate Dean of the Department of Biological Sciences at SRM University-A.P., who addressed students at SDM Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala.

During a captivating session titled ‘Careers in Management and Sciences,’ a collaborative effort by The Hindu FIC, SRM-A.P., and SDM Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala in Vijayawada, Mr. Murugaiyan passionately urged students to explore the vast and exciting opportunities within biology and its many related disciplines.

He drew inspiration from groundbreaking figures like Thomas Edison, Subhash Mukherjee, and T.C. Anand Kumar, demonstrating how simple questions can lead to monumental discoveries. He also highlighted the critical importance of interdisciplinary research in advancing fields such as diagnostics and treatments.

Furthermore, Mr. Murugaiyan explained the promising avenues created by the National Educational Policy-2020, illustrating how students can directly pursue Ph.D. programs at SRM-A.P. in cutting-edge areas like bioengineering, bioinformatics, and integrative biology after completing their B.Sc. or B.Tech. degrees.

Following this, A.V.S. Kamesh, a distinguished professor from the Paari School of Business at SRM University–A.P., offered students an insightful introduction to the expansive world of business studies. He covered its broad scope and the wide spectrum of career opportunities available across various management domains.

Mr. Kamesh defined business as a structured effort to produce, sell, or exchange goods and services for profit, all while creating significant value for customers, stakeholders, and society. He detailed the interdisciplinary nature of business studies, focusing on six key areas: Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management (HRM), Marketing Management, Financial Management, Operations Management, Business Analytics, and Strategy and Governance.

He emphasized that a strong foundation in business studies opens numerous career paths, encouraging students to cultivate essential interdisciplinary skills, sharp analytical thinking, and adaptability—qualities crucial for thriving in today’s dynamic business environment.

The successful and informative session was facilitated by college principal V.V.S. Kumar and his dedicated team, with enthusiastic participation from students across various academic programs.
