HYDERABAD: The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) is urging State governments and their designated agencies to prioritize comprehensive communication strategies. These strategies are essential for continuously engaging all stakeholders in India’s pursuit of a net-zero future by 2070, emphasizing large-scale energy efficiency adoption.
These crucial communication efforts are designed to help India meet its targets for economic sustainability and climate change mitigation. By raising public and social awareness through innovative approaches and involving both public and private sectors, the nation can cultivate a strong culture of energy consciousness and significantly speed up the adoption of best practices in energy efficiency, according to a BEE statement.
During the release of a special report detailing the positive impact of Communication, Coordination, and Collaboration (CCS) on boosting energy efficiency and combating climate change, Director General of BEE Dhiraj Kumar Srivastava emphasized that strategic communication will be instrumental in uniting citizens, industry, and institutions towards these vital sustainable goals.
The report, submitted by BEE’s Media Advisor (South) A. Chandra Sekhara Reddy, also highlighted the remarkable achievements driven by the Ministry of Power’s specific strategies and policies. Implemented in close coordination with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), State Designated Agencies (SDAs), DISCOMs, and various industry stakeholders, these initiatives have led to record-breaking results.
These include energy savings equivalent to 53 million tonnes of oil equivalent (MTOE), electricity savings of 321.06 billion units, and a substantial reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 321.06 million tonnes.
Mr. Reddy further noted that flagship programs like the Perform, Achieve & Trade (PAT) scheme, the Standards & Labelling (S&L) programme, and EESL’s UJALA scheme have been pivotal to these impressive outcomes. He proudly stated that these efforts have not only brought significant financial benefits to the States but have also earned recognition from leading global organizations, including the International Energy Agency (IEA) in Paris.
