During a recent event in Mysuru, former Minister and JD(S) MLA G.T. Deve Gowda brought attention to the significant civic problems plaguing the Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency. He made a direct appeal to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, requesting substantial financial grants to fund essential development projects in the area.
Speaking from Chamundi Hills at the Dasara inaugural function on Monday, Mr. Gowda explained that numerous residential layouts, originally approved by the former Mysuru Urban Development Authority, have now been transferred to local urban administrative bodies.
He emphasized that these areas are severely lacking basic amenities such as adequate underground drainage systems, parks, well-maintained roads, and reliable drinking water. According to Mr. Gowda, even a staggering 2,000 crore rupees would be insufficient to fully address these critical infrastructure needs.
While efforts are currently underway to increase water supply by an additional 60 million litres per day (MLD) from the Kabini river, Mr. Gowda noted that Mysuru and its neighboring regions would only achieve a continuous 24-hour drinking water supply once this enhanced provision is fully operational.
Mr. Gowda argued that merely allocating the standard grants provided to other constituencies would be insufficient for Chamundeshwari. He highlighted the unique challenge of the constituency’s vast geographical spread, encompassing areas along Nanjangud road, H.D. Kote road, and Hunsur road, essentially encircling the city.
He drew a comparison with the Varuna Assembly constituency, represented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, which has seen comprehensive development. Interestingly, residential areas like Vallabh Bhai Patel Nagar and Alanahalli, located on the outskirts of Mysuru, are split between both the Varuna and Chamundeshwari Assembly segments.
Mr. Gowda lamented that while the sections of these layouts falling within Varuna are well-developed, the corresponding parts situated in Chamundeshwari continue to suffer from a lack of development.
Earlier in his address, Mr. Gowda commended Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s selection of writer Banu Mushtaq to inaugurate the Dasara festival. He praised Mushtaq as a celebrated and internationally renowned Kannada author, whose acclaimed works have been translated into 35 languages.
