The vibrant Dasara festivities in Shivamogga officially began on Monday with a traditional inauguration led by the distinguished Lt. Gen. Baggavalli S. Raju (retd). The ceremony commenced with devout prayers offered to Goddess Chamundeshwari at the revered Chandika Durga Parameshwari Temple. Shivamogga’s own MLA, S.N. Channabasappa, proudly presided over the auspicious event.
Expressing his deep honor at the privilege of inaugurating Dasara, Lt. Gen. Raju eloquently described the festival as a powerful emblem of truth and righteousness triumphing over falsehood and injustice. He emphasized that this universal message of moral victory resonates through all cultural celebrations.
He further elaborated on the communal essence of such festivals, stating, ‘These occasions bring people together in joyous celebration, allowing them to set aside differences. Regardless of their economic status, everyone participates, fostering a sense of shared community. Moreover, the various events organized during these celebrations play a crucial role in nurturing and showcasing local talents.’
Reflecting on his illustrious career, Mr. Raju shared insights from his 39 years of dedicated service to the nation as an army officer. He spoke of the unique opportunity he had to experience India’s diverse landscapes and climates, having served in regions ranging from extreme cold, with temperatures plummeting to -50 degrees Celsius, to scorching heat zones where the mercury soared to 50 degrees Celsius. He concluded, ‘It was an immense privilege to witness our country’s vastness and contribute to its defense.’
In a heartfelt appeal, Lt. Gen. Raju encouraged the public to consider military service. He urged parents and guardians, ‘If your children aspire to join the army, please offer them your full support and never discourage their noble ambitions. Should you need any guidance or advice, do not hesitate to reach out to me.’
The ceremony was graced by the presence of several dignitaries, including legislators Dhananjay Sarji and D.S. Arun, as well as Shivamogga City Corporation’s Mayanna Gowda. The sacred rituals were meticulously performed by Shankarananad Jois, adding a spiritual dimension to the inauguration.
