A tragic incident unfolded in Hyderabad’s Neredmet area on Sunday night, September 22, 2025, when a house fire claimed the life of 79-year-old Jayaprakash Ramanna. Authorities suspect he died due to asphyxiation after being trapped by the blaze.
The fire erupted at Ramanna’s villa, situated on the service road in Vayupuri Colony, nestled between a car showroom and a wine mart. He resided on the ground floor of the G+1 property, while his sister’s family occupied the first floor. His son lives in Bangalore, and his daughter is married and settled in Kukatpally.
According to Neredmet police officials, Ramanna’s sister and her family were out on Sunday evening. Investigators currently believe the fire may have been triggered by an electrical short circuit, possibly from an appliance he was using, perhaps to heat water for a shower.
The inferno began around 8:46 p.m., quickly filling the villa with dense smoke, rendering Ramanna unconscious. Police, promptly alerted via Dial 100, arrived at the scene and rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival.
Cantonment Station Fire Officer R. Raghava Reddy corroborated the suspected electrical origin, noting significant damage to the refrigerator and switchboards. Firefighters, including the HYDRAA unit, worked until approximately 1 a.m. to fully extinguish the flames and complete the necessary search operations. A case has been registered, and police are continuing their investigation into the exact cause of this devastating fire.
