Andhra Pradesh has been distinguished with the prestigious ‘Best State Award’ by the Central Silk Board, Government of India. This accolade comes in recognition of the state’s exceptional success in raising awareness and implementing impactful development programs for its dedicated silk farmers and reelers, under the ‘Mera Resham – Mera Abhiman’ initiative.
An official statement highlighted that this significant achievement was made possible through the expert guidance of Special Chief Secretary B. Rajasekhar and the diligent leadership of K. Srinivasulu, Director of Horticulture and Sericulture.
The award ceremony took place during the 76th Central Silk Board Foundation Day celebrations in Bengaluru on September 20, 2025. Dignitaries who presented the honor included Padmini Singla, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles; Shivakumar, Member-Secretary of the Central Silk Board; and Ambika Lakshminarayana, Member of Parliament from Anantapur and a Member of the Central Silk Board.
Working collaboratively with Central Silk Board scientists and district-level sericulture officials, the State government rolled out numerous awareness campaigns across districts such as Sri Sathya Sai, Chittoor, Annamayya, Anantapur, Prakasam, and Kakinada. These concerted efforts have not only boosted cocoon production among existing farmers but also successfully encouraged new agriculturalists to embrace mulberry cultivation.
Expressing his pride, Mr. Srinivasulu remarked, “The department previously earned the Best Tableau Award during the 2025 Independence Day celebrations. To now receive the ‘Best State Award’ from the Central Government is truly a moment of immense pride and gratification.”
